La Macchina Fissa is open all year round
It is a private home and seat of the cultural association, Reading Retreats in Rural Italy, a holiday home to its members who come from all over the world to relax and unwind in a beautiful, rural setting.
Members are welcome to take part in the every-day operation of the house, grab something to drink from the fridge, help cook or set and clear the table, join Clark in gardening projects. La Macchina Fissa is an excellent way to experience an authentic Italian way of life. It is not a hotel or Bed and Breakfast

Rooms
There are eight guest rooms for a maximum of sixteen guests. Each room is furnished with antiques, exhibits contemporary art, and holds a themed collection of books.
There are four shared bathrooms.
The atmosphere is difficult to describe, but guests (over 50% are returning) feel like they’re visiting friends, but aren’t clients.
Included
La Macchina Fissa has an interesting garden of unusual plants and is located along the Mincio River, in the Parco del Mincio.
Facilities include the library (over 6,000 books), CD collection, hundreds of DVDs for our mini cinema (see full list), three pianos, a small fleet of old bicycles, free wireless internet, and free parking.
Where are we?
La Macchina Fissa is located on the plains of northeastern Italy, about 25 minutes south of Mantova, 40 minutes north of Modena, and 45 minutes south of Verona. From the levee of the river Mincio, (on clear days) there are spectacular views of the Alps to the north
Winter retreats
The entire building at La Macchina Fissa is heated by a large wood-burning furnace which heats water for the radiators in every room. The libraries, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are cozy. There are also two fireplaces and three woodstoves.
Families
Children of any age are welcome to stay at La Macchina Fissa if their parents make reservations before other guests, and then those who want to come during that period are informed there will be children around. If other guests already have rooms reserved, children are not allowed. Families should make reservations early to avoid disappointment.
Pets
Pets are not allowed on the property. There are four dwarf goats here at La Macchina Fissa and two indoor/outdoor cats that are not allowed in guest rooms.
